Blue Cheese Salad Dressing


If you are a former cheese eater, Blue Cheese Salad Dressing has been off the radar for some time now. But recently, I had the opportunity to experiment with a new vegan cheese product called Sheese.

Imported from Scotland, Sheese is a delicious alternative to dairy-based cheese that’s firm in texture and is by far the best eat-straight-from-the-package vegan cheese I have ever tried. It made a FABULOUS Blue Cheese Salad Dressing and fooled many diners.

Melting Factor
Sheese takes a bit longer to melt than other vegan cheeses due to the firmness, but it works extremely well in just about any recipe you use. Enjoy slices on crackers (the smoked cheddar is phenomenal all by itself!), baked on macaroni, topping pizza or anything else you miss traditional dairy cheese on. Available in 9 flavors – Gouda, Mozzarella, Blue, Cheddar & Chives, Hickory Smoked Cheddar, Strong Cheddar, Medium Cheddar, Edam and Cheshire. 8 oz. (227g) blocks are $8.95 each.


Ingredients
1/2 cup crumbled Blue Style Sheese
1 cup Wildwood Soy Yogurt
1 cup Vegenaise
3 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 teaspoon Organic Wizard's Vegetarian Worcestershire Sauce (Vegan)
1/4 teaspoon Hawaiian Sea Salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon agave nectar

Tools
Bamix large mixing beaker
Bamix Immersion Blender
spatula
cheese grater

Preparation
Use a cheese grater to grate 1/2 cup of the Blue Style Sheese.

In the large Bamix beaker add all the ingredients, except the Blue Style Sheese.

Insert the Bamix Immersion Blender and blend the contents of the beaker until everything is smooth.

Remove the Bamix and add the Blue Style Sheese.

Stir the contents with a long handled spatula to make sure that all the Sheese is coated with the dressing mixture.

Cover the beaker with its plastic lid or decant to another container until time to add to your salad.

If the dressing is too thick, try adding more cider vinegar to the mixture and stir.

Presentation
Add this to any salad and no one will be able to tell that you didn't use an expensive blue cheese. I was amazed at the texture and taste of this dressing.

Number One Pick, Sheese Blue Style
Our number one favorite was the Sheese Blue Style. It had all the flavor and consistency of what I remember of Blue Cheese.

The Sheese Medium Cheddar and the Sheese Smoked Cheddar were our second best picks and the Sheese Gouda came in third.

It's been along time since I ate real cheese, so I've created most of my vegan recipes without using cheese. In any case, it is wonderful to find companies creating tasteful alternatives to use in vegan cooking.

Sheese Tasting Party
Sheese is pricey, but each one lasts a long time if refrigerated and does not loose flavor. If you're wanting to try them all, why not get 5 friends to chip in $15 each and have a cheese and wine tasting party. This would cover the costs and allow you to order all the Sheese flavors. Just add the wines, crackers and sliced apples and you've got an instant party!

Blue
Filtered water, vegetable oil, soya concentrate, salt, spirit vinegar, vegan flavorings, oat fiber, lactic acid (vegan source), carrageenan, xanthan gum, yeast extract, turmeric extract (for color)

Cheddar & Chives
Filtered water, vegetable oil, soya concentrate, salt, spirit vinegar, vegan flavorings, oat fiber, lactic acid (vegan source), carrageenan, xanthan gum, chives, yeast extract, turmeric and paprika extracts (for color)

Hickory Smoked Cheddar
