White Popcorn Snack

Bob's Red Mill White Popcorn
Bob's Red Mill White Popcorn

Fast, simple and inexpensive... creating air popped popcorn is a regular snack at our home. And yellow popcorn was the only popcorn used. But one day while I was shopping at the Ocean Beach Co Op Health Food Market, I found Bob's Red Mill "White Popcorn" and bought a bag to try. The flavor was far superior to the yellow kernels I was using. Once I tried the Bob's Red Mill White Popcorn, I couldn't bring myself to finish off the yellow kernels. So I decided to feed it to the wild turkeys out in the fields.

Now Bob's Red Mill White Popcorn is the only popcorn I use in my air popper. And once you taste it, you'll taste the difference too.

Ingredients
Bob's Red Mill White Popcorn
no-stick spray oil
sea salt

Tools
large bowl
air popper
salt grinder

Preparation
Add the recommended serving amount of popcorn to your air popper and pop. As the popcorn falls into the bowl, spray it lightly with the non-stick oil spray and salt using a salt mill filled with Hawaiian sea salt with the grinder set on fine grind. Experiment with different natural salts to find the one that you like best.

The spray oil helps the salt to hold onto the kernels.

Presentation
Try spicing up the popcorn with cumin or a pinch of cayenne... even a curry blend is great.

I leave the popped corn in the bowl and set it between myself and my husband while watching television. My grandson loves this popcorn too!

A Traveling Snack
Prepare single serving bags to take on trips or outings... just pull out a bag rather than choosing some sweet or fat filled snack from a fast food store.

My Oven As A CRISPER
In Honolulu the humidity made anything crispy go soft. Also there were BUGS! I don't know how I came up with a solution, but I turned the oven light on and put anything opened like crackers, cookies, etc. into the oven. The heat from the oven light kept everything CRISPY. In Julian, I do the same thing. If you come to my house you will find all the opened snack items in the oven... and there's usually a bowl of white popcorn ready for quick snacks. In the oven everything stays fresh and crispy and BUG free!

Yes, I have to move everything out when I bake in the oven, but it's worth the effort. I also use my microwave for storage since I don't use it for cooking or heating any foods.
