EasyGreen MikroFarm™ Sprouter

No-Brainer Sprouts
I once tried to grow sprouts at home in glass jars with screens, but they soured or molded because I failed to rinse them often enough. I didn’t care for the taste of any store bought sprouts. Yet, after reading blogs with “RAW” food ideas, I decided to give home sprouting another try. After all, my husband, Rob-ART, loves fresh sprouts and complained that store bought tested “musty.” So the least I could do is grow them fresh for him to enjoy.
After investigating all the “how to grow sprouts” sites, I came across several automatic machines that were suppose to make growing sprouts EASY with, hopefully, better results than my earlier experiments. I chose The EasyGreen MikroFarm™ Sprouter because it allows me to sprout 5 different seed crops at the same time. Its automatic system oxygenates and mists the seeds. I just spread the seeds in 5 individual trays, fill the water compartment, set the timer, and walk away.

Stagger the Planting
After 5 days, I had 5 trays of mature sprouts and wheat grass ready for harvest all at the same time. Yikes! I had so many sprouts, I was going around the neighborhood trying to give them away.

After re-reading the manual, I discovered that if I plant two trays every other day, I had just enough ready-to-harvest sprouts needed for recipes. My new strategy is to plant one tray of wheatgrass and one tray of my favorite seeds. I wait two days and do the same. Then after two more day pass, I plant the last tray plant with either wheatgrass or sprout seeds. This “rotation planting” scheme provides just the right harvest at the the right time.

Homegrown Spicy Sprouts
Sprouts in Five Days
Every other day I add about a liter of water to the EasyGreen MikroFarm™ Sprouter. By day five I have the best tasting fresh wheat grass for juicing or a variety of yummy sprouts for salads or sandwiches. There is a wide variety of seed mixes that can be purchased for sprouting.
The Taste is Fabulous
Since I started using the EasyGreen™, the flavor and spicy combinations of seed mixes has opened a whole new eating experience for me. And my husband is as happy as a clam.
I love adding a thick layer of sprouts on sandwiches. And the added benefit is that I am getting the highest level of nutrition from a LIVING FOOD. I’ve grown alfalfa, clover, broccoli, radish, and spicy mix sprouts with great success.

EasyGreen MikroFarm™ Sprouter Product Features
Automatic Timed Water System
Seeds generate chemical heat during germination and need to be cooled to avoid mold and rotting. The EasyGreen™ uses a patented technology where mist and oxygen are applied simultaneously to the seeds, thus both cooling the seed’s water and air and oxygenating the seeds and water. Sprouts require little water but abundant amounts of oxygen. Other automated sprouters and conventional sprouting methods supply plenty of water yet only provide natural air displacement.
Automatic Water Draining
The EasyGreen™ drains all unabsorbed water out of the machine. Inhibitors in seeds are the natural defense mechanism of seeds acting as a deterrent for germs and bugs. Some sprouters re-circulate the same water! Your sprouts are then irrigated with water containing toxins and inhibitors, defeating the concept of using clean, good water for your sprouts. Bearing in mind that sprouts are made of 80% water, using clean water makes sense and I fill my EasyGreen™ with bottled water daily.
Humidity Control
Managing and controlling the humidity within the machine is critical to the sturdiness of the sprouts. With the EasyGreen™ I am able to adjust its unique 96-activations timer, allowing me to fine-tune the machine to the temperature fluctuations during the summer and fall environmental conditions. My unit sits atop a lateral file on our covered lani. I can open the small door on the EasyGreen™ to allow the humidity to be less if it is a HOT day.
Built-in Water Reservoir
The EasyGreen™ built-in water reservoir is compatible with either de-mineralized water, distilled or bottled water.
Add Minerals
The water reservoir allows me to add minerals that enhances growth, such as liquid kelp or hydroponic growing solutions.
Disinfect Water
The built-in water reservoir allows me to add solutions that assist in disinfecting the crops, such as hydrogen peroxide.
Water Use
The EasyGreen™ unit uses about ½ gallon of water in 24 hours due to it's fine misting activity. Other sprouters that use an automatic irrigation system need to be plumbed and use 3.5 to 5 gallons of water a day! The EasyGreen unit needs no plumbing and can sit anywhere in your home while the seeds sprout.
Low Electrical Use
The Mist Generator™, the heart of the machine, uses 120v/60Hz and is rated at only .55-Amp, using a negligible amount of electricity.
No Pre-Soak Required
Conventional sprouters require a pre-soaking operation of 8 hours up to 24 hours, before commencing the propagation of the seed. The EasyGreen™ requires NO pre-soaking. Seeds are placed in the five trays DRY and the machine takes over, soaking, rinsing, misting, oxygenating and draining automatically. This saves an extra day of pre-soaking, manual handling of the repeat daily rinsing, and eliminates the jars lined up all over my kitchen.
Sprout In All Climates
Sprouts are sensitive to environmental conditions and climate changes. So I am able to set my timer to water less in the winter months and more in the summer. Sprouts can be grown year-round in this controlled environment.
Quicker Harvest
The misting and oxygenating automatic cycles assures the quickest harvest... 15% to 40% quicker then any sprouting method.
Soil or Soil-less
Some growers prefer to use soil for some crops such as wheatgrass, sunflower greens or arugula micro greens. Other sprouting methods are soil or soil-less (Hydroponic). The EasyGreen™ may use both concepts with no damage to the machine or crops.
Food Grade Quality Grow Trays
The EasyGreen™ provides FOOD GRADE QUALITY Trays in accordance with FDA regulations. Most other sprouters use storage containers and trays!
Extended Warranty Available
The EasyGreen™ carries a full manufacturer’s warranty and an extended manufacturer's warranty may be purchase for up to 5 years!

Growing sprouts is a healthy and tasty experience that everyone should try. You won’t be disappointed with the investment and it will save on the cost of buying lettuces and “moldy” sprouts. Five trays feed three adults and one grandson weekly. And wheatgrass is juiced twice a week with a Green Star Twin Gear 2000 Juicer. (Review Soon!)
Seeds and Sproutings Hints
Growing Arugula
It’s important to know that arugula seeds become slimy when watered. So it is best to grow them on a piece of hemp fabric or in sterilized soil. The trays work well with either medium. If you try to put arugula seeds in the trays alone, they will get slimy and slip right out the irrigation holes... so don’t even try to grow them without hemp fabric or sterilized soil in the trays.
Where to Purchase Organic Seeds
For the best sprouts, buy ORGANIC seeds! I have found the best sprout seeds at SproutPeople.net. They have a wealth of information on sprouting "dos & don'ts" and a huge line of organic seeds for sprouting. Their "Leafy Sprout Sampler" introduced me to several sprouts with different flavors and spiciness. My favorite is the Spicy Mix and French Garden mixes.
Growing Wheatgrass for Juicing
Wheatgrass is a blood purifier, cleanser, and detoxifier. It contains chlorophyll, which helps carry oxygen to every cell in your body. This oxygen helps fight off disease, harmful bacteria, and cancer. Wheatgrass must be "squeezed" or juiced in order for the body to assimilate its nutrients; so, it is not appropriate to add it to a salad. If you are interesting in juicing wheat grass, check out my review of the Green Star 2000.
Wheat Allergies
Wheatgrass is grown from the wheat seed or berry which is farmed widely in almost every state and around the globe. Those with wheat allergies need not be concerned when consuming wheatgrass juice because it is a leafy green and is different altogether from the grain and refined grain products that cause allergies. Gluten is not found in wheatgrass and wheatgrass is a digestible protein.
